Solution for Distribution Companies | Operations Management System | Power Control Rooms |Offgrid Networks

As customers and regulators demand an ever increasing level of Quality of Supply, it has fallen to the Electricity Utilities to find ways of improving their levels of service whilst at the same time reducing operating costs. One way of achieving this is to provide remote control to their Distribution Network, and in some cases provide automated responses to faults within their network.

GIL Automation offer realtime systems to help our customers provide reliable service to their end clients.

By deploying  Geographic Information Systems (GIS) alongside distribution SCADA, clients can create a cirtual distribution network thereby mitigating unwanted shutdown and network collapse.

Our Solution for distribution network include:

  • Switchgear retrofitting ( ABB, Siemens, Lucy, Schneider etc) for Distribution Automation
  • GIS deployment
  • Protection & Control Panels for LV/MV network
  • Supply and Support of Auto-reclosers, RTUs, PLC, Remote Control PCs, Historian, sectionalizers etc.
  • Automatic Meter Reading (AMR)
  • Fire & Safety Solution for Power Plants
  • Battery Bank, UPS Systems, Inverters, Rectifiers and other Critical Power Solution.
  • Communication Infrstructure for Distribution Automation ( RF, VHF, Wimax, WiFi, Microwave etc)

DISTRIBUTION AUTOMATION SYSTEM (DAS)

Due to the lack of synchronized information between the base station loading profile (33KV Substation) and the health status on the 11KV feeders, the supply of electricity can be epileptic. Als Due to lack of monitoring, overloading occurs leading to low voltage in the consumers end and increase the rate of frequent damage of feeders and transformer.Furthermore, fault on one particular wing on the distribution network sometimes distabilizes the entire network thereby causing a black out.
Most distribution zones across West Africa have vast number of lines and equipments, hence  it is not easily possible to isolate some load for load shedding as at when required or to isolate a particular unstable wing of the network or reclose a line after a transient fault.
Hence there is need for an efficient system that will be capable of the following:
  • Fault Location: Such a system should be able to identify the exact location, or perhaps the closes switch to the source of a fault.
  • Auto- Isolation: Upon detection, such SCADA system should also be able to automatically isolate the faulty portion of the network. This might be through opening a breaker automatically (or remotely), activating a switch or action of a RMU.
  • Auto-Sectionalization: The SCADA solution should also be capable of sectionalizing the fault such that the fault does not distabilize the entire network.
  • Auto-Restoration: Such SCADA system should also be able to automatically restore the line once the fault is cleared. It should sense the closest switch to the fault and restore electricity at the earliest instance of fault Clearing.
At GIL Automation, we are experts in Distribution Management systems and Distribution SCADA. Our solution has been tuned to the peculair West African environmental and infrastructural requirements.
