This software can be operated as a standalone PC application, or integrated into SIMATIC STEP 7 as a TIA-compatible program, or highly integrated into the SCOUT Engineering System (for SIMOTION). The basic functionality and handling are unaffected by this. In addition to SINAMICS drives, STARTER also supports MICROMASTER 4 devices. The project wizard can also be used to create the drives within the structure of the project tree. Entry-level users are supported by solution-based interactive guidance, in which a standard graphics-based display maximizes clarity for setting the drive parameters. A further noteworthy feature is that first commissioning is performed using a wizard, which makes all the basic settings in the drive. Getting a motor up and running is therefore merely a question of setting a few ofthe drive parameters. The individual settings required are made using graphics-based parameterization screens, which also very accurately visualize the principle of operation of the drive. Individual settings that can be made include the use of terminals, the bus interface, the setpoint channel (e.g. fixed setpoints), the speed control (e.g. ramp function generator, limitations), the BICO interconnections and the diagnostics. One advantage is that advanced users can use the expert list for direct and quickaccess to individual parameters at any time. An individual compilation of frequently used parameters can be saved in dedicated user lists and watch tables. The STARTER commissioning tool is available in German, English, French, Italian, and Spanish. Depending on the version of the Control Unit (CU), the Control Unit of the drive unit can communicate with the programming device (PG) or PC via PROFIBUS or PROFINET/Ethernet or via a serial interface. For this purpose, either the SIMATIC S7 connecting cable, the CP 5711 communication module or the SIMATIC DP connecting cable is available for the specific drive system.
